Place you definitely need to visit while on the Kenyan coast

The Kenyan coast has a very strong source of identity; It captures your attention not only because of its appeal, but also because of the various natural features, buildings, and cultural presentations and sounds on offer there. There are several attractions on the Kenyan shores that one cannot miss while visiting this place such as; the sandy beaches, the turquoise blue Indian Ocean, the beautiful hotels and the delicacies that enchant visitors with their impressive smell, color and presentation.

The Kenyan coastline is made up of several beautiful cities. The best known and most visited of these is the Mombasa district, which happens to be the second largest city in Kenya; it is a colorful city containing a beautiful mix of old and modern structures. Another amazing district on the Kenyan coast is Malindi, known worldwide as a historically rich city; containing the history of the east coast of Africa since the 15th century. Malindi city is surrounded by several beaches that offer that cool relaxing breeze and fresh ocean air and its stunning sunrise and sunset scenery. Further south on the Kenyan coast lies the town of Watamu, fronted by endless stretches of colorful white-sand beaches. Watamu is the place to find well-established African resorts, as well as many private guest houses scattered along the quiet shores.

The famous Diani beach is located along the southern coast; it has a wide range of restaurants and resorts with varieties ranging from small boutique properties to the largest family hotels. The calm environment allows the visitor to participate in various water sports such as; windsurfing, sailing, snorkelling, water skiing and diving.

Places to visit

While on the coast there are certain regions and experiences that one must visit and try, these include:

dinning room – one should not leave without trying the exciting cuisines that are prepared in the local restaurants. The types of cuisine served take into account the diversity of tourists that visit these areas. World famous Swahili cuisine is also served and prepared in traditional African cooking styles. Some of the Swahili delicacies served include; Pilau and Biriani dishes. Some of the other cuisines served in the dining room include Italian, Japanese, Indian, Continental and many more.

strong jesus – This fort was built in 1593 and is located on the edge of a coral ridge overlooking the entrance to the old port of Mombasa. The museum inside contains finds from archeological digs along the coast and has a great display of history and culture.

old Town – this is the only place in the city of Mombasa that takes you back to ancient times. Ancient buildings, exquisite artistic designs, and curiosities popularly known as Kenyan souvenirs characterize the city. The city was built by the Arabs who greatly influenced the way of life in the city.

Gedi Ruins – It is a small town that was basically made of rocks and stones. It is located in Gedi along Watamu road.

Pillar Vasco da Gamma – This pillar is one of the oldest monuments in Africa that was built in 1498 by the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gamma as a token of appreciation for the welcome given to him by the Sultan of Malindi.

Shimba Hill National Reserve – in the Shimba Hill game reserve, one experiences the raw taste of the broad side of the Kenyan coast. The game reserve is a tropical rainforest within the Kenyan coast that is cool and refreshing with scattered magical waterfalls; far removed from the heat and humidity of the rest of the Kenyan coast.

others – Haller Park, Mamba Village, Mombasa Tusks, Mombasa Marine Park, Hindu Temples, Mnarani Ruins are among other places that offer great experience and scenery to the visitors.
