Save money with discount codes from car rental companies

Car rental companies often use promotions and discount codes to drive business. These discounts have created their own subculture on the Internet. Many travel sites openly discuss and share discount codes with other travelers in hopes of making the travel experience more affordable for everyone.

Almost all employers with more than 100 employees generally have some type of discount that they can apply for or already have. So if you work for a government agency, a large retailer, a fast food chain, a technology company, a sales company, a manufacturer, or even a cleaning company, chances are you’ll qualify for some sort of discount. Some of these company codes not only offer discounts on the price, but also offer additional services.

Some of the larger companies have negotiated other “benefits” into their price. Car rental companies like Hertz and Avis cater directly to companies and often to each other for the same company. In exchange for signing multi-year guaranteed business deals with some of these corporations, car rental companies will offer things like free tank of gas, free insurance, no one-way fees, or even free upgrades on the corporate discount contract. Often, if you’re an employee of these companies, even if you’ve just been hired and your job duties don’t require travel, you qualify just by showing your work ID.

While using some of these codes without proper credentials may cause you to violate part of the car rental agreement, others are openly offered to anyone who qualifies simply by being a member of a particular club or organization. Costco, Sam’s Club, GEICO, Citibank credit cards, even the entertainment book purchase can lead to some tempting coupons in addition to corporate discounts in some cases. Popular coupons include free tank of gas, free weekend day, $1 weekly rentals, free car class upgrades.

Just ask your rental company before you start planning your trip to determine exactly what kind of discount might be available to you. Once you’ve found some discount codes you can use, try to get quotes for each qualifying rate. Discount percentages will vary even with the same code based on car type, day of the week, city, and time of year. Due diligence is a big thing when it comes to researching travel. An hour entering discount codes for car rental companies (even hotels) could save you hundreds, or even thousands, depending on how long the trip is and how many people/vehicles are involved.

Remember that the more effort you put into this search, the more likely it is that you will find a fare that not only works for you on a particular trip, but for all your trips.
