Spice up your kitchen – Spanish style

Spanish kitchens are very dramatic and convey a sense of closeness, especially if there are many loved ones nearby. There are several ways to explore your creativity when designing in the Spanish style. You have the opportunity to work with different colors and materials, so feel free to choose and do what best suits your home and interest.

Furniture, Countertops and More

A common Spanish design would place an island countertop in the middle of the kitchen. This primarily serves as a prep area for slicing, dicing, and marinating. You can also install the stoves on the counter as well. There are designs in which the island is separated from the breakfast bar, sinks and stoves. You can experiment with dark wood, marble and copper in the design to create the right atmosphere.

Space is of the essence in Spanish kitchens, so you may need to balance the furniture correctly so as not to overwhelm the area. The countertops should have drawers and built-in cabinets where you can store kitchen utensils, large bowls and other pieces. One or two separate cabinets would be enough to store all your kitchen items. It is recommended that you purchase furniture with French doors or tall, skinny legs that provide a Spanish feel due to the extra space.

Put wall panels over the sink and on one wall, then attach fluorescent lights behind which will serve as nightlights. Aside from these, install a beautiful antique pendant light above the island counter. The lamp can have around 3 to 5 bulbs creating a dramatic effect throughout the kitchen. Green, blue and cream tiles are great to work with. The floor can also be made of hardwood or grained tile. Provides a rustic feel reminiscent of the Old World. You can make a pattern by adding tiles with floral designs, especially on breakfast counters and above sinks.

Accessories

Place a hanging wood frame over the island countertop. The fixture would be held up by rustic black chains attached to the ceiling. This is where you can hang spices and utensils creating the perfect Spanish atmosphere. Glass items should be placed in cabinets with French doors where they can be presented well. Attach hooks to a wall where you can hang pots and pans.

A Spanish kitchen has a very earthy feel and makes use of lots of light and space. Try to acquire all of this when choosing your materials and designing to get the look you’ve always wanted.
