Charytin – The Dominican Republic Superstar

Born on May 23, 1949 in Santo Domingo, she is a Dominican Republic superstar, singer, actress and television presenter all in one, Charytín Goyco. Popularly known as Charytín, Goyco was born to a Dominican father and a Spanish mother. When Charytin’s mother broke up with her father, she and her siblings were taken to Spain. Ten years later, they returned to the Dominican Republic when their parents reconciled.

In 1960, Charytin moved to Puerto Rico and met television producer and actor Elin Ortiz, who became her husband. He began his career in Puerto Rico in 1970 with his own weekly television program on WAPA-TV that lasted 15 years. With his own song “Mosquita Muerta” that became one of the charts in several countries such as Argentina, Mexico and Venezuela, Charytin became an international superstar who took pride in the Dominican flag. She gave birth to her first child in 1979 and named him Shalym, who is a budding actor who appeared on the television show Lizzie McGuire.

In 1988, she and her husband Charytin moved to Miami where she became pregnant. In 1990, she gave birth to twins, a girl and a boy. Charytin dedicated himself to raising his children. He usually takes them along with his trip to Puerto Rico. In the late 1990s, he returned to television through a Spanish shopping network in Miami. He began hosting his own gossip television show in 2002 for Telefurtura – Escandalos de la Mediadia. For her contribution to the Dominican Republic, she was awarded the Association of Art Critics of the Dominican Republic in 2007.
