Family summer weekend getaways

Summer is the perfect time to pack up the car, gather the family, and head off for a fun, restful, and relaxing weekend; one that the whole family will enjoy.

Depending on where you live, a summer weekend can include a stay at the beach, the lake, the mountains, a favorite big city, or Grandma’s house. It really doesn’t matter what you do or where you go, as long as the three key elements mentioned above come into play: fun, rest, and relaxation.

The beach?

For example, a trip to the beach is always fun, because there are usually lots of fun things to do and plenty of time to kick back and relax. Children love the sand and the waves that accompany the seashore. Moms and dads love the beach because they can happily sit in the sun and enjoy the opportunity to stretch out and relax, while keeping an eye on the kids.

The accommodations around the beaches are generally quite nice and include services such as swimming pools, spas, gyms and babysitting services. There are also motels that charge a modest rate for families on a budget. Coastal areas often have a wide variety of restaurants to choose from, offering all types of cuisine. Activities to keep children occupied until bedtime often abound on the beaches. They include miniature golf, go-karts, bowling and more. Later, using the hotel’s babysitting services (if available), Mom and Dad can end the evening with an intimate dinner and dance.

cabins?

Another example of a perfect family weekend is a cabin on the lake. There’s nothing like driving down old country roads and onto a picturesque dirt road, which leads to a charming cabin overlooking a pristine lake and loons singing a serenade in the background. With inner tubes, water rafts, fishing poles, jet skis, fishing boats and other lake paraphernalia in hand, what better way to hang out and enjoy a spectacular weekend? Mom might even sneak off to a garage sale or two or stop by a farm to pick up fresh eggs and bread for breakfast. Dad will feel like he’s gone to heaven sitting in a boat with a fishing rod in the middle of the lake.

Mountain resorts?

A trip to the mountains can be rewarding on a hot summer weekend; huddled in a chalet on the side of the mountain. Mountain guides often offer fabulous hiking and walking trails during the summer months. On a tour, families can observe the beautiful flora and fauna along the trail, along with spectacular views of majestic mountain tops. Evening hours can be spent playing favorite family games and popping popcorn by the fireplace. After all, mountain nights can be quite cold. and many times a warm fire is needed. Family mountain activities can also include horseback riding, gondola rides, and shopping at local boutique stores.

Rest in the city?

Staying in a favorite city at a five-star hotel will bring a smile to the whole family. It is not difficult to find things to do for a family in the city. There are museums, galleries and restaurants to visit; and, of course, shopping for everything and anything under the sun. The kids will be entertained looking for the latest video games or toys, and mom and dad will go crazy looking for the latest fashions and gadgets. A city’s local newspaper, or tourist guide, is a “must have” in a big city, because it will list all the current events and happenings on the weekend you and your family visit.

Grandmother’s house!

Last, but certainly not least, are the family weekends at Grandma’s house. When a family comes to Grandmas’, you can be sure that Grandma will take charge. Mom and dad won’t have to lift a finger, and the kids will be pampered and pampered from start to finish. The aroma of homemade dishes and tempting desserts will fill the house, and the opportunity to sit back and do nothing is the call of the day. Surely that’s called rest and relaxation.
