Have goals but live day by day

One of the best tips you can receive to have a long, happy and enjoyable life is to live from day to day. In other words, live one day at a time; don’t worry about anything in the future or past beyond twenty-four hours. This is indeed excellent advice, but it may give you the impression that you shouldn’t plan or think ahead. It should. Setting goals for the future is important, and the process of setting goals, getting excited and excited about them, and seeing them accomplished, will give you a tremendous sense of happiness, just as living day-to-day will do.

Goals are positive thoughts and they increase your happiness. What you should not do is have anxiety about the future. Anxiety leads to negative thoughts and should be avoided at all costs. In particular, don’t waste time worrying about losing your job or having money or health problems in the future. Most of the things that people worry about never happen. Also, don’t waste a lot of time waiting for things to happen in the future. While you wait, life passes and the precious moments you spent waiting will never return. Happiness cannot depend on anything; it has to happen now. Today is your most precious possession and you should make the most of it.

Similarly, you should not try to live in the past. Nostalgia for the past is natural; you were younger and perhaps more energetic. However, looking back at your life can lead to problems thinking about some of the mistakes you made and how things could have been different. It’s certainly okay to briefly think about the past, savor it, but don’t worry about it (and what you should have done differently). It’s over and over, and there’s nothing you can do to change it. However, you can learn from it, and you must.

So forget about the future and the past (beyond twenty-four hours). The only important thing now is today, and the things you have to do today. Done right, they will influence your future and perhaps improve it. But the important thing is to live these twenty-four hours as if they were the last, enjoy every moment of them and you will have a happier life.
