Les Miserables – Are you one of them?

The film revolves around 19th century France, Jean Valjean, known as Prisoner 24601, a man who has been wrongfully sentenced to nearly two decades in prison, creates a new life while evading the clutches of the persistent and ruthless police inspector Javert. after breaking probation. . Jean Valjean then agrees to take care of a factory worker’s daughter and with that, their lives change forever.

Overall, the film was genuinely groundbreaking and visually stunning. Les Miserables is not only the most ambitious British film ever, it may be the best. As a person who doesn’t really like musicals, I approached the film with an open mind and anticipated that the film would be good regardless of the format. Yes, there were times when there were embarrassing scenes where her lines would switch between singing and speaking, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable, however, it is inevitable to be immersed and fascinated, especially since the singing was filmed live. , which is chilling and impressive.

Plot-wise, the film is sensitive and relatable. It represents many instances in life where you have to sacrifice yourself and do something, be it good or bad, beneficial or not, just to continue living. A dominant theme in the film was the difference of people in social classes, the less fortunate are treated like trash and slaves, while the rich are praised and esteemed. Moving on, one scene in particular that I enjoyed the most or can I say was completely engrossed was with Eponine. The part where she intercepts Cosette’s letter to Marius so that Marius doesn’t receive it and delivers her dialogue while it’s raining was extremely heartbreaking. The cinematography along with the music was also perfect which made it more moving and heartbreaking. Éponine is one of the most beloved characters in the musical, she is made to have a more romantic, understanding, likeable and relatable presentation of her character that Samantha Barks was able to portray well. On top of that, my favorite characters in the film were the Thénardier couple, even though they weren’t the star of the film and there were only a few scenes where they appeared, they were able to leave an impression and add a bit of humor to the film. Another character I admired was Gavroche, his bravery and his strong-willed heart were exceptionally remarkable. This just proves that whatever happens, keep your faith and believe.

As a whole, my rating for the film Les Miserables would be four points 5 out of 5 (4.5/5). Like I said, there were times when I felt uncomfortable due to the abrupt change of lines from talking to singing, but it didn’t really matter that much, I still appreciated the movie and was impressed. Les Miserables being two and a half hours was the right thing to do; It wasn’t too long and nothing felt rushed. Also, the music along with the singing was also remarkable and catchy, some even stuck in my head. Also, the actors/actresses were able to portray their characters very well. Les Miserables is another addition to my favourites, not only is it worth watching but there are many lessons learned along the way. It can be said to be action-packed, captivating, compelling, inspiring, and beautiful. On the other hand, keep in mind that while watching the movie, try to read between the lines, as there are hidden meanings and symbolism behind the dialogue that make the movie more fascinating and amazing. However, the movie is worth watching and I highly recommend it.
