Tips for cross-dressing: learn to think like a woman for your safety

A long time ago in grad school when I was learning to be a counselor, we did this little exercise in a gender studies class. What does this have to do with cross-dressing advice? Bear with me for a moment: one of the things I find strange with my MtF and FtM clients is the rise in violence faced by male transvestites.

Genetic men and women are raised differently. It is a fact that social scientists discuss why and how, but it is a FACT. Genetic women are socialized differently from a very young age, and learning to think like a woman and staying safe is the most valuable of all the crossdressing tips I can offer.

The exercise

This is a bit difficult to do yourself and you’ll get better results if you survey a group of friends, preferably including not only cross-dressers, but also genetic men and women who would consider themselves “straight” and pretty straight forward.

Close your eyes and imagine that you are out one night after work, in boy mode, shopping for something nonchalant at the mall as a gift for a friend.

When he leaves the mall proper and begins to walk to his car, it has turned dark outside.

  • Where are you parked?
  • How do you walk to your vehicle? What’s on your mind?
  • Basically, describe your experience walking out of the stores and through the parking lot to your vehicle.

Okay, if you’ve never cross-dressed in public before, you’re probably wondering how on earth this exercise applies to cross-dressing advice.

Well, the interesting difference is in how genetic males and females describe their different outputs. Almost all straight men in my class and almost everywhere just walk to their car and don’t really think about anything “out of the ordinary.” Genetic women, on the other hand, usually go into high-alert mode when walking outside alone at night. They start thinking where are the keys, where is the pepper spray, did I park under a traffic light? The internal conversation changes to a security one.

Crossdressing Tips for Safety

Even if you think it will never happen to you, safety when you’re alone is almost always on a genetic woman’s mind. Boost your confidence by keeping these cross-dressing tips in mind: Always lock all the doors of your car, even when you’re inside and driving – carjackings happen and women or those posing as women are the most frequent victims. frequent.

  • Always park in well-lit areas.
  • Always inspect the interior of your vehicle before getting in it.
  • Have your keys handy before you leave; Keys can be an excellent weapon if you need to defend yourself and having them at the ready can help you escape so you don’t have to.
  • Drive if someone tries to break into your vehicle while you are inside. If you can’t, lean on the horn to alert anyone else in the area to the problem. Often, if it’s a high-traffic area, this is enough to scare the person.
  • If you think someone is following you, drive to the nearest police office, fire station, or hospital. DO NOT drive home.
