Henry Maier Festival Park

Often referred to as Summerfest Grounds, this is where Summerfest and other festivals take place every weekend throughout the summer. Ethnic and cultural festivals cover most of the events and include Irish Fest, Pride Fest, Polish Fest, and many other popular gatherings. Races and charity events are also common. The concerts take place at the Marcus Amphitheater, which has a capacity of 23,000 people. The park is on prime real estate as it sits on the outskirts of town and rests on Milwaukee Bay, steps from Lakeshore State Park and the historic Third Ward. If you’re in town during long periods of sunlight, head out; there is sure to be a great event worth your precious free time.

There are not many like this in the world. There certainly aren’t many like this in the United States. A beautiful structure that was built for worship in 1901 can be visited today regardless of your faith. Featuring one of the largest copper domes in the world, the structure is charmingly detailed from top to bottom. Even if you have been to Europe and visited the basilicas there, you will find that it has a certain credibility and stature of its own. This is not the kind of place where you can let your kids run; You should make it a quick destination with the little ones or you can leave the little ones with a babysitter and enjoy a quiet afternoon strolling around the Basilica.

It’s no secret that this place is more for the novelty experience than the food. Not that the food is bad, but you won’t meet Wolfgang Puck in the kitchen.
