What am I giving up for Lent?

Don’t worry, I’m not going to launch into a rant about religion. …

Having recovered from my January trials and tribulations, I headed into February with a revived passionate verve. He had finally gotten over the lingering cold and was ready for action. I got into the exercise regimen, not expecting too much from myself after a break of almost 3 weeks. Passion glowed, a light ember inside her. As the week progressed and I continued to exceed my expectations. I pushed myself a little harder, and while I was at it, I added a new cardio regimen called High-Intensity Interval Training. It’s exactly what it sounds like and can be done in 20 minutes. (I explain it in more detail in the next article)

Now, one client in particular whom I will give the name of Jackie has been working with me since late summer and although she has made excellent gains in her fitness, she has not lost the weight that she had set out to do. In fact, she has gained a pound or two. So while working out on this new cardio regimen, I invited Jackie to join me. The cold weather still persisted, we tended to use their gym most of the time, which is why no one else has been invited.

So in week one, Jackie and I do cardio 3 or 4 times in addition to the exercise regimen. The second week, yours truly feels foolproof. My passion is a red hot ember and I am determined to save the world of fitness. If Jackie doesn’t feel motivated to do her cardio one day, I jump in and do more to cheer Jackie up. The result of Deb’s passion is that Deb trains 3 times plus 6 days of cardio, Jackie 2 workouts + 2 cardio. Despite all my efforts, I now have a low-grade cold again and have to stop training for a whole week. I was just trying to do my best and be my best and I ended up spanked. Now I realize that I can’t save the fitness industry.

So for Lent I am giving up passion and giving in to practicality. The following article will cover several more topics related to “Passion”, its problems and how to avoid them. I believe there is a place for passion, it will haunt me and drive me as friend and foe for the rest of my life, like my Catholic roots.

In the meantime, several customers have expressed a need for cardio to lose weight. Once the weather gets a little warmer, I will be organizing groups and times where we meet in the park to do collective cardio. Basically, we will divide into groups of walkers/fast walkers, walkers/runners, and runners/sprinters. I’ll keep everyone posted on the details. Email me at [email protected] to reserve your spot. Everyone will be grateful that you learned your lesson and didn’t push them too hard.
