American Gangster: A True Story of Men on the Opposite Side of the Law

American Gangster (2007) is based on the life story of Frank Lucas and Richie Roberts. Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington) is a former international drug dealer and crime boss in a major African-American commercial and cultural center in Manhattan, New York, known as Harlem from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. On the other hand, Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe), a New Jersey police detective and an Essex County Deputy District Attorney. On the other hand, Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe) is a former Marine, Police Detective and Deputy District Attorney for Essex County.

The plot of the film revolves around the separate lives of a high-class gangster and an ordinary policeman and how their lives accidentally coincide. It features how Lucas became involved in the dark side of the “from poverty to riches” story. He started as a driver for a mafia boss who passed away, leaving him the authority. He created his own empire to achieve his own American Dream. He ruled the drug trade in the city center, dealing with the elite in politics, entertainment, and the very field he’s in.

Meanwhile, Richie Roberts is having a hard time dealing with his failed marriage, police career, and law classes. His unbridled womanizer resulted in a more complicated situation when his wife seeks a divorce and custody of their son. His colleagues hate him because his rare honesty makes him an outcast. He takes over the newly built task force against the raging drug trade in the cities of New Jersey and New York.

As drug-related crimes rise and the police force search for the right moment to catch the man behind the rampant drug trade, the paths of Lucas and Roberts will intertwine, as it is meant to be, where only one can emerge victorious. .

American Gangster features the interesting personalities of men from opposite sides of the law and tackles the topic of corruption and crime. Ridley Scott directed this gangster movie superbly (this is the best movie yet) and the cast (Washington and Crowe) add depth to their roles and performed brilliantly here.
