How to design a kitchen layout

When people make the decision to remodel their home, they usually start in the kitchen. This is usually the largest and most trafficked room in the home and there is always something you can do to improve it. However, it is not an easy job. When you start, you should be ready to design every detail, big or small.

One of the strongest things you can do before beginning your remodel is to design a layout for the total area. Look at the space you have available to work in your place. This will help you determine what kind of kitchen you want to have. Do you want it to be another place to eat or decked out with high-tech stoves and a sizable island?

When you know what kind of kitchen you want to have, you need to design the work area. This will include the sink, stove, and refrigerator. Decide where the best places to place them are and how easily traffic will move when they are placed here. Change things whenever you want.

A portion of this layout should include additional cooktops, sinks, or other prep workspaces. It may be more functional to place them on an island in the center of the kitchen. Just make a point that you have enough space for this. To test it, place cardboard boxes flat in the center of the floor and measure the space between it and the counters.

Once you have all the details and measurements in hand, you can start drawing the layout of the kitchen. Draw everything on graph paper. This will help give you an idea of everything you want to use and if you need to change anything.
