Places To See In Belize

Belize may be associated with the rainforest and the historical sites of the Mayan civilization, however, there are other places you can visit that are not only related to these two things. It is a country that has a varied ecosystem and has a certain untouched feel to much of the country. You can spend time in the largest city called Belize City or just relax on one of the many beaches, some more secluded than others.

But as a tourist in Belize, there are several places that you should consider visiting during your trip.

Due to its terrain, you can spend time exploring various caves in the country, but it is best to explore with the help of tour guides and there are several companies that perform this service for tourists. However, you don’t have to do it this way and instead, armed with information and maps, you can make your own and add to the sense of adventure.

If you are interested in wildlife, you can spend a nice afternoon at the Belize Zoo in Belize City. It is a zoo that only contains animals that can be found within Belize, so in just a few hours you can appreciate the variety of animals in this area.

Although you may not have much interest in exploring the various Mayan ruins in the city, the museum in Belize City is worth a visit for a glimpse into the country’s history. It contains many artifacts belonging to the Mayans and you can take your time to absorb all the history and culture around you and it allows you to get a different feeling of part of what the country made.

Belize has a large number of nature reserves and parks, with varying emphasis on particular types of wildlife. Each nature reserve allows visitors and offers information about what can be seen there, but entrance fees may vary depending on the reserve. Searching these reserves before you travel is certainly a good idea due to the sheer number.

Located in Benque Viejo Del Carmen is the Poustinia Terrestrial Park, which is a pretty clever mix of art and nature. It is further off the beaten track, but is worth a visit, even if the journey may be a bit adventurous.

To be closer to the ocean, you should definitely take a trip to the Placencia area with beaches, snorkeling, and exploring the waters and wildlife. Prices here can be a bit higher than elsewhere due to it being more popular and accessible. To avoid paying these prices, a little more work at home is required before you travel.

It’s hard to pick just a few places or types of things to do in Belize, so this has been designed as a simple guide to help you brainstorm before you travel. Looking at the country and what is available can help you strike a balance between exploration and a relaxing trip.
