Sinus and sinus infections – Possible causes – Common and unusual – Nursing guide

If you have been suffering from sinus infections or some other type of sinusitis, which basically means an inflammation of the sinuses, you may be wondering what causes it. Although it’s not always known and can sometimes follow a cold or be mistaken for a cold, you may have some ideas of your own. You have no doubt heard of the most common causes.

Many people still think that sinus infections are caused by bacteria and want their doctor to give them antibiotics. But most sinus infections are NOT caused by bacteria and are caused by invasive or non-invasive fungi, which you can find as household mold. So you want to eliminate that possibility first and get rid of any mold you may have in your house, apartment and condo or even your RV.

Look under and around toilets, bathtubs, and showers. The bathroom is the most common place and also look for the kitchen. If you have plants in your bedroom, be sure to remove all of them. If you have a lot of plants in your house and continually get sinus problems or sinus infections, then consider removing them, although the oxygen they give off is nice to have.

Less common causes of or contributing factors to sinusitis and sinus infections are: nasal obstruction due to certain conditions including swollen adenoids, nasal polyps, foreign bodies, tumors, and any surgeries you have had, dental infections, tooth extractions, teeth, dental surgery and Oral surgery.

Consider indoor pollution, so ventilate the house as much as possible by opening windows and doors, especially in the winter months if possible, when many people have sinus problems, sinusitis, or sinus infections on a routine basis.

Then there are barotraumas, which are injuries due to changes in ambient pressure resulting from activities such as air travel or diving.

Other problems include immune system problems that can be congenital or acquired from birth. More serious causes may be due to underlying disease, such as cystic fibrosis or ciliary dyskinesia and cleft palate, conch bullosa, and deviated septum.

The most familiar causes are dust, sawdust, and other particles that can be found in the air, such as pollen, chemical pollutants, and dust mite debris. People often get sinus infections when they are doing home remodeling work or are on construction sites, both indoors and outdoors. So take a look at these causes and think about the environment around you as to what might be causing your sinus infections, sinusitis, or other sinus problems. Know that you can treat most common causes yourself at home with natural sinus treatments and home remedies.
