Walking Dogs at Camber Sands Beach: For a Pet-Friendly Vacation or Weekend

Why not make the most of your summer vacation or long weekend and come with your ‘best friend’ to Camber Sands?

It’s very dog friendly and with lots of great pubs and accommodation in the area, it’s a great way to recharge your batteries.

The most popular area to walk your pet is Camber Sands, to the west of the beach, and the best place to park is when you come into Camber from the end of Rye and Rye Golf Course.

If you have a “Sat-Nav”, enter the zip code TN31 7RB and it will take you to the parking lot that best suits the dog walking zones/areas.

The current parking rates (2012) in the City Council car parks are as follows: 8:30-18:00 –

£1.50 / hour

£4.00 / 2 hours

£7.00 / 4 hours

£9.00 / 6 hours

£11.00 / 8 hours

£13.00 / max.

The car park stays open until 8pm… but then it closes… you won’t get out!

With plenty of dog bins and restrooms, the facilities are well worth the cost…and remember to PLEASE use the bins and pick up your dog’s deposits.

In the summer, on a particularly sunny weekend, expect some queues to get into Camber, as long queues build up as cars wait to enter the main car parks near the beach. The busiest times are around 10:00…if you get there earlier you shouldn’t have too much trouble.

If you’re traveling to Camber in the summer (end of September), Rother Council introduced dog zones on the beach where you’re allowed to walk your dog. At low tide these areas stretch for miles and even at full tide there is plenty of room as the sand dunes jut inland at least 500 yards in parts and the shoreline stretches west for at least a mile. .

When ‘dog zone’ instructions were introduced, all dogs had to be leashed. This was aggressively policed (for about six weeks) by dog keepers (or should I say, mostly spotted summer vacant college students). However this now seems to have been relaxed and as long as the walkers are sensible and in the designated zones then they shouldn’t bother.

The direction it will take automatically will be West and if the tide is high, walk to the end of the beach (Rye Harbour’s entrance), turn right along the river towards the Harbor Master’s office. You can then return to the car park along the legal walkway through Rye Golf Course. Dog bins are limited in this area, so take plenty of bags with you!

The round trip is about four miles total… watch out for golf balls And keep your dog on a leash!

Along with excellent dog walks, Camber, Rye and Rye Bay have so much more to offer than the glorious sandy beach and we’d really recommend taking a longer break and visiting the historic town of Rye, or Rye Harbour, where the excellent Reserve Native of Rye Harbour. with miles of asphalt and more dog-walking opportunities. The Nature Reserve also has many dog bins.

If you’re looking for a room for the night, there are plenty of PET FRIENDLY hotels in the area to help you make the most of your visit… so what are you waiting for? Camber Sands and the Rye Bay area!
